Ya know what really grinds my gears? It's when I have a one of my favorite families contact me to get update family portraits taken for this year, and I realize that I never even shared their amazing session from last year at Runge Nature Center here in Jefferson City, MO !
I've been tossing around the idea of the direction I want to take my portraits over the last year or so, and I've come to realize that when it comes to families, traditional portraits don't do much for me. When stepping back to find out what really matters in a family session, I have taken a look at my own family and realized that what I want to see is the connection between everyone. I want to be able to see the bond and feel the love just by looking at the photo. Call it lifestyle, call it documentary, call it photojournalistic, call it what you may. I've found the style that moves me and it is all about the real connections.
I've photographed Megan and Aaron's family before and they are always such an incredible and open family that I question if it was my photography that led to such amazing photos or are they just that great to work with. As a photographer, I always like to feel that I did well, but really, having such a fun family in front of my camera is where the magic comes from. All the credit goes to them. Without their energy, my photos are just some images of pretty scenery.
We've got this years session scheduled for next month so I'm eager to see what kind of photos we'll capture this year!
Stay tuned, my peeps!
